As a fellow graphic designer who spends way too many hours in front of screens, I can tell you that the shift from fluorescent to quality LED is absolutely not just marketing hype. The flicker you mentioned from your old tubes is a major culprit for headaches, even if you don’t consciously notice it. My biggest advice is to prioritize CRI (Color Rendering Index) over smart features initially. For your design work, you need a CRI of 95 or higher. I made the mistake of buying cheap ‘daylight’ bulbs that had a high Kelvin rating but terrible color accuracy, making my edits look washed out.
Regarding the 5000K question: yes, it can be harsh in the evening. I found that a tunable white system is worth the investment if you can afford it, but a simpler solution is to use two separate lamps.
